Ashbourne Community National School

About Us

Who are we?

We are a Community National School. This means that we are a multi denominational, co-educational school. We are funded directly by the state through the patronage of Louth Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB). To find out more visit the CNS Ireland website.

We are a group of committed teaching professionals who seek to provide a holistic education which enables children to flourish socially, emotionally, and creatively as well as academically.

We are a community of professionals, parents and children working together to build a school that is happy and welcoming because happy children learn.

What do we do?

Happy students and happy teachers collaborate to achieve a creative and innovative approach to teaching and learning. Teachers utilise the most up to date and best practice approaches to teaching and learning so students develop a love of learning. Children at ACNS learn how to learn – this is a life long skill that takes them through the curriculum and beyond. Some examples of the programmes we use to instill a love of learning in our students are Lift Off to Literacy and Maths for Fun.

Like all national schools we follow the Primary Curriculum. English, Gaeilge (Irish), Maths, History, Geography, Science, Physical Education (PE), Social, Personal, Health Education (SPHE). The Patrons curriculum is called Goodness me Goodness you (GMGY). The GMGY curriculum consists of four strands; My Stories, We Are A CNS, Thinking Time, and Beliefs & Religions. Religious instruction and instruction on the sacraments such as communion and confirmation takes place outside of school hours and can be arranged through the parish centre.

When did we open?

Ashbourne CNS opened in September 2019 with approximately 90 children enrolled in classes from Junior Infants to 6th Class. At the time we were the most rapidly developing newly established school in the country. The school has an established feel to it, thanks to the hard work of the staff and many parents who helped get the building ready for opening. This combined with the generous patronage of the LMETB has resulted in a well resourced school enables high standards of teaching and learning to take place.

Where are we located?

We are now located in temporary accommodation on our permanent location as our state of the art building is being built behind us. You’ll find us behind the black gates/railing to the right as you head from Ashbourne towards the Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA club. Our new eircode A84 R984 will help you to find us.

How are we the same and different to other schools in Ashbourne?

We are the same as all national schools because we teach the national primary curriculum. We are similar to most national schools because we wear a uniform. We are different as everyone can apply for a place in our school. This is because we are multi denominational and co-educational. We respect and welcome all religious denominations and help children link to their churches in the community but we do not provide religious instruction in school time. Our Ethos is what drives us and what makes ACNS what it is.
